Tamika Thompson, D.D.S., M.S. is a native of the Detroit Metropolitan area. She graduated from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry (UDMSOD) in 2002. The following year she completed a general practice residency at the John D. Dingell VAMC. She went on to practice as a general dentist for 6 years, part time at the VAMC and full time in Detroit in private practice. She returned to UDMSOD to study in the Graduate Periodontal Program which she completed in 2011. She holds a D.D.S., M.S, and a Certificate of Periodontics from the University of Detroit Mercy. She became a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology in 2012 and recertified in 2018. She is currently a full time Clinical Associate Professor in the divisions of both Graduate Education and Clinical Essentials and Simulation. She teaches periodontics via clinic and/or didactics to the dental and dental hygiene students, accelerated dental students, and the graduate periodontal residents. She received the American Academy of Periodontology Educator Award in 2017. She received the ADEA/AAL Chairs and Academic Administrators Management Program Scholarship. Dr. Thompson engages is in research and has had several publications. She has also presented CE courses at UDMSOD and outside organizations. Dr. Thompson also proudly serves veterans at the Detroit VAMC on a part time basis.
- Explain the differences and similarities between the old 1999 and the new 2018 periodontal classification when diagnosing periodontal disease
- Describe the similarities and differences between teeth in health, gingivitis and periodontitis when using the old and new classification system
- · Describe the purpose and the significance of the staging and grading table as it relates to periodontitis
- Utilize the staging and grading table to classify periodontitis using problem and case-based examples
